Privacy Policy

From the Rockies LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) publishes the book Stop the Hack! and operates this website at stopthehack.info. This site exists to tell you about the book and let you get in touch with us. It is an informational site — you can’t create an account here, and we don’t sell anything or process any payments on it. When you choose to buy the book, that purchase happens entirely on Amazon.

We take a deliberately minimal approach to your information: we collect only what you hand us directly, we use it only to do the thing you asked us to do, and we never sell, rent, trade, or share it with anyone. This policy explains that in plain language.

What We Collect

The only personal information we have is what you choose to give us through one of the forms on this site:

In addition, like virtually every website, our web server automatically keeps standard access logs — for example your IP address, browser type, the pages requested, and the date and time. These logs are generated by the server itself for security and troubleshooting. We do not use cookies, advertising pixels, or cross-site trackers of any kind. We do use one privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool — GoatCounter — purely to see basic, anonymous traffic statistics, as described under “Website Analytics” below.

What We Do With It

We use your information only for the purpose you gave it to us:

That is the entire list. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or targeted marketing, and we do not build any kind of profile about you.

Website Analytics

To understand how the site is being used — which pages people read, roughly how many visitors we get, and where they arrived from — we use GoatCounter, an open-source, privacy-friendly analytics tool. GoatCounter does not use cookies and does not track you across other websites. It records only anonymous, aggregate information such as the page visited, the site you arrived from, your browser type, and a general country-level location. It does not collect your name or email, and it does not store your IP address — your IP and browser are used only momentarily to tell one visit apart from another, and are then discarded. The statistics we see cannot be traced back to you as an individual.

What We Share

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal information with any third party, partner, advertiser, or data broker, for any reason. We never have, and we never will. The only outside service that ever receives any site data is GoatCounter, our analytics provider described above, and it receives only the anonymous statistics noted there — never your name, email, or anything that identifies you. Beyond that, the only exceptions are the narrow ones every business is subject to: we would disclose information if we were legally required to by a valid law, subpoena, or court order, or where it was necessary to protect our legal rights.

Because we don’t sell or share your information and we don’t track you across websites, there is nothing to opt out of for “sales,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising. If you visit with a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal enabled, there is simply nothing for it to act on, because we already don’t do any of those things.

Buying the Book on Amazon

All purchases of Stop the Hack! take place on Amazon. When you click a “Buy” or “Order on Amazon” link, you leave this site, and any information you provide there — including payment and shipping details — is collected and handled by Amazon under Amazon’s own privacy policy, not ours. We never see or receive your payment card or financial information.

Your Newsletter Subscription

Signing up for the newsletter is completely optional. Every newsletter email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. You can also just email us and we’ll remove you.

Your Choices

You’re always in control of the information you’ve given us. At any time you can email us to ask what we have on file, to correct it, or to have it deleted, and to unsubscribe from the newsletter. We’ll take care of it promptly, and we won’t treat you any differently for asking.

Children

This site and the book are intended for a general, adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has sent us their information, please contact us and we’ll delete it.

Security & Retention

We keep the small amount of information we hold only for as long as we need it — your newsletter email until you unsubscribe, and contact messages for as long as needed to help you and keep a reasonable record. Server logs are rotated in the normal course. No method of storage or transmission is ever perfectly secure, so while we take reasonable steps to protect your information, we can’t guarantee absolute security; please don’t send us sensitive information you wouldn’t want to put in an email.

Changes to This Policy

If we change how any of this works, we’ll post the updated policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date above.
